The TS808 seems to be the industry standard OD pedal, but alot of people still remember the Boss OD-1 (especially the original 14 pin IC version) as being the ORIGINAL OD pedal (first produced in 1977). And yet you try and find a clone of that pedal. The 14 pin versions fetch good money on ebay these days, so are way out of reach for mere mortals like me, so I'd love to clone one. How about a kit then? Any plans? I can't be the only one that wants one. Can I??

I was looking to see if there was a way to do a poll on this, but if you're interested in seeing a OD-1 kit, post a quick reply saying yes to this. Pretty please :D

the amount of pins on an op-amp doesn't change the way it sounds it is the surrounding circuitry that gives a pedal it's sound.
people who pay a lot of money for a pedal whose only difference is an obsolete chip with 14 pins in it are morons.

anyway you can build your own with this layout on stripboard

I'm not sure I agree entirely. The OD-1 went through 4 versions and the earlier ones used an RC3403 quad opamp, which provided the input an output buffers too, so I think it's generally accepted that they do sound different. I also think it's acknowledged that you can get a good way towards acheiving the same sound by modding an SD-1, but that's not exactly what I'm after. Cheers for the vero layout though. I might use that.

the difference there is that the original was buffered but following that schematic you can just use a TL074 those 3403 quad op-amps aren't anything special, I've got about 30 of them lying in my junk box

just plugged it in the other day and don't like it at all
very thin sounding

edit:just checked the serial # it's from 1981 so I was close
