Hi,
I've assembled a 5 knobs compressor kit. Everything seems ok but... I'm not sure about the correct working of the "attack" knob. I know it's a "subtle" parameter when you are using a compressor but it seems that changing the value has no hearable effect on the sound. Is there a way to test it?
I don't know if it can be related to the trim adjust, I've found there is a small range of the internal trim who give a low hum, it's actually setted at noon position, wich seems the one that give the clearest sound...

The other knobs seems to work right, adjusting them gives you back an immediate sound change.

Anyway: how can I verify if the Attack is working properly.

Thanks to everyone.

Bye!

I believe the BYOC 5K is based on the Ross compressor and the attack control there sets how much of the start of the input note is passed through at maximum gain before the compressor cuts in and starts controlling the gain to keep the output signal at the same volume for as long as possible.

It can be a little hard to hear the effects of a compressor depending on the conditions. To hear the effect of the attack knob you should set the ratio control to all compressor. Use a clean amp sound, leave the treble and volume on your guitar all the way up. You should find that the attack control will change the output sound from the notes sounding quite poppy and snappy to a smoother less aggressive sound. Remember that compressors follow the input volume so to get clean attack pops on every note you need to play quite cleanly damping a little between notes.

Note attack, of course, occurs for only a very short space of time right at the start of the note so that is what you need to listen for.

The snappy compressor sound is used by a lot of country players using telecasters.
