Just built a Phase Royal ... and I gotta be honest it does not have the depth I am looking for. I need my guitar to sound like its trying to hock up a loogie. Any suggestions?

The Phase Royal has 4 phase shift stages, which I'm guessing is about the norm for most phaser pedals out there, plus a further 2 stages switched in with the Stage switch. You will get the richest sound with all 6 stages. Also the Resonance control should thicken the sound (set Depth and Mix at max - you should then hear a pretty sick phase sound). You also need some high end from the guitar to hear the effect at its strongest, so don't back off the tone control. You could also try a distortion pedal in front of the phaser.

If you are in doubt that the pedal is working properly try driving it with a wide frequency range audio signal rather than your guitar. The output from a CD player or radio will do. It is possible that some of the phase shift stages may not be working. Check that all the knobs and the switch on the phaser actually do something.

Have you tried a regular MXR Phase 90? The PR will get thicker than a stock Phase 90, as described by Tark above. If a regular Phase 90 was plenty think enough and yours isn't doing that, there's more than likely something wrong with the build - a resistor in a wrong place or something similar.
