I guess my address is technically in the south, at least by all the stars and bars around here. Middle of Virginia anyone else near?

I would be up for a Milwaukee/Chicago/Madison meetup.

You know what would be super awesome someday? A little convention style thing where people come from all over the country/world, bring their works. Maybe some work shops and an area to trade and sell stuff. Some bands could play. It would be fun.

Sort of like NAMM, but for DIY-ers ... that seems like something that must exist somewhere, right? If not, it's a hell of an idea!

Makes me wonder too. I'll bet maybe in the next 5 years or so assuming the growth continues? I don't know how that would be funded though as we don't have advertisers...well I don't

I have to be one of the few Canadians who isn't very enamoured with Rush. I don't mind them, but can't really profess any deep love (like I can for delay).

Don't you have to denounce your citizenship now or something?

While it's not centered around music gadgets, Maker Fair is pretty much what you're talking about:
http://makerfaire.com/

It's by the people behind Make Magazine. I used to get a subscription. It's a cool magazine, but I found that most of the topics weren't quite was I was interested in.

You can have all the Rush, Celine, Avril, Bieber and Nickelback you want! There is so much better music happening up here that I always cringe at the idea that these are our great exports.

Don't forget Mr. Summer of '69!
No doubt that there is good music in Canada, it is sad that there just hasn't been much exposure south of the border. I would love to hear more music from all parts of the world, not just the stuff pushed on us by the mainstream world.

Hey - watch it there, Rush is absolutely fantastic and other than hailing from Canada has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of that list!

My favorite Canada export, with the exception of my wife and maybe Le Fin Du Mond, is The Tragically Hip. One of the BEST live bands out there. Keep the rest of the ones above. Well ok, early Rush was interesting.

And on that note, I and a group of friends are going to be camping at Mountain Jam this year (first weekend in June):
http://mountainjam.com/

It's at Hunter Mountain, so all you NY, Conn, and Mass guys are pretty close to that. If you don't want to camp the whole weekend, you could get a day pass and hang out one day.

Canada is my favourite deathmetal-country ever.
Must be something in the water up there, cuz the guys are way ahead of everyone

Well, I've already did a meetup here in Sweden(Swazi/Swiss/FOAD) with ducttaperiot dave and his canadick friend Jeremy :D
So if you ever stop by Stockholm for a few hours, give me a call and I'll bring the brewskie!
I can even meet you at the airport haha!

I'm in, our wives can watch the kids. We can car pool! I'll be over in three minutes

And here's the venue I'm suggesting - Kuma's Corner on Belmont in Chi-town. Chicagoland's best gourmet burgers, served up in a heavy metal bar with 3 bourbons on tap, a superb beer list, and art that can only be described as "vampire porn". Their slogan is "Die Emo Die". Did I mention the burgers??? My fave is the "Lair of the Minotaur": their usual awesome 1/2# burger on a pretzel bun with a thick slab of pancetta bacon, melted brie cheese, carmelized shallots, and a pear poached in bourbon. Honorable mention to the Pantera burger as well.

You're right. I actually do like the few Rush albums I have.

That said, my bar none favourite album this year was a Toronto guy called Sandro Perri. His "Impossible Spaces" is amazing.

I've gotten to meet several guys at the Dallas guitar show every year. Which is this weekend, actually. But alas, can't go this year.

thanks for saying it, tooly. some things just need to be said. If Rush was an instrumental band, I would like them way more. Instead, I just can't listen. sorry fans. :(
