It opens today. For those who haven't heard, it's a Ridley Scott-directed semi-prequel to the original (and best) Alien film. Highly anticipated/hyped, and amazingly not leaked in advance of its European opening, it opens today in 3D IMAX.

To celebrate (and ensure a good time, even if the movie's not all that great), I will be meeting up with some dudes to smoke grass, play 18 holes of disc golf, drink beers in the pool, eat dinner, smoke some more grass, then hit the movie. Should be awesome.

If I didn't have so much going on and a zero tolerance program at work I would be making the drive from Grayslake to find that pool :P At least I got to have fun in HS like TN

Have fun and don't spoil the movie for us, ya cheddarhead :D I won't get to see it for at least another week.

Sounds like a wonderful plan, Cap. I'd leave the golf part out, but if that's what does it for you....enjoy!

DISC golf, geek. Better than regular golf, cheaper (ok, free), and you don't need a cart (unless your cooler is huge).

For that you simply need a cooler with wheels.

Just to make sure we are talking apples to apples here, you mean "frisbee" golf or is there some other kind of "disc" that is being used these days. And you toss it into some metal bucket with chains kind of thing?

Used to play that drunk as a hoot owl many years ago at a local state park.

No spoilers here. Just letting you know that "Prometheus" kicked all sorts of ass! I'll probably see it again.

Same thing. "Frisbee" is a brand name. Disc is the generic term.

I miss disc golf. Back when I lived in Raleigh, there was a sweet 18-hole course about a mile from my house.

Sort of figured, but then I thought I'm so out of the loop sometimes maybe they came up with something new to toss around. I'm only aware of state parks around here having a course. Nothing like this now up your way anywhere?

I'm in that nebulous space between graduating school and actually being offered a job in my field of study. When I'm not applying for jobs, running, compulsively checking my phone for missed calls while chain-smoking, or cleaning the house, I try to hit the $4 matinee's as often as possible. Saw "Snow White and the Huntsman" on Wednesday. Not too bad 8)

Don't miss "Prometheus" though!

Disc is not the same as Frisbee! Golf discs are heavier, smaller, fly faster, and can be intentionally curved.

I saw a girl take an approach shot from 20 yards right between her upper lip and nose... it split and bled like a mofo, but amazingly didn't scar. She sure made a racket as she tipped over backwards, though

For the record, the movie was overall pretty solid. Not as scary as I was hoping, but rather kind of disturbing, especially at one major part featuring staples.
I felt like with about 30 more minutes of screen time, they could have fleshed out the characters and story just a bit more. There were a few characters that really needed more development to shine. But overall, a pretty good sci-fi romp.

Saw the movie. Great sci fi. I don't overthink these type films. I just enjoy them for what they are and I dug this one.

Exactly right. Don't overthink it... that's for Lucas-hating Star Wars fans.

I've forgotten but how does the first Alien start?

My wife and I were trying to remember

crew of a mining ship is woken up halfway to their destination for a signal found on a nearby planet. They are sent to investigate, and everything goes to hell.
