When the subject of the crate V series amps came up, I promised a review of the warehouse speakers. They have introduced drop in replacements for the Celestion Blue, and the G12H30 (to go with their acclaimed "Green Beret" which is a fantastic greenback replacement, and the veteran 30 which is a vintage 30 replacement, both getting rave reviews), that I recieved today. Did a quick lower vol check, as I can't crank it, in the garage but I will be bringing these to a collector friend either tonight or tomorrow night, and will report further. I didn't have a Celestion Blue to compare the "Black and Blue", but, the B+B sounds merely amazing. I'm running a home-made 1 1/12 test cab, and using the voxer 33 that I am just about finished with (save a ground hum and DC leakage into a vol pot), so there is high end on tap, to hear. I listened closely for hurt in the upper regions, and didn't get any. The Celestion Blue is famous for it.....however, louder volumes will be more telling. For the 5 minutes I used it, thumbs up high. I do have a G12H30 here to compare the Reaper to, (one that a friend sent me, a really great sounding unit, according to him, who is a speaker and gear whore), and at lower volumes, the Reaper sounded noticeably better. More articulate, tighter bottom, clearer in general. Sounded fantastic out of the box. Both of them. I suspect that once I get them into a 2 12 cab, they will really kick ass together. More later.

Thanks for the review Geek. I've been anxiously awaiting the B&B - was hoping they'd do their magic on the price. :( I guess $160 is still better than anything else.

Like I said in a previous post, it beats the hell out of $280. Not quite half-price, but close enough for me.

Me too - it goes from being a speaker I would never try because of cost to one I would consider spending that much on.

Geek - thanks for the review! This is very exciting. I had been hoping Warehouse would be a 'suitable substitute' for higer priced speakers. Never thought they'd be as good or better... I suppose we'll see with time and use (and abuse) if they hold up as well, and the sound holds up as well too.

I can tell you this. The baskets seem an exact match to the origs. If you go to the site http://www.warehousespeakers.com they have links to the gear page, etc.....some truly great reviews there. I will be getting my 2-12 cab in a few days, and will load'er up.

I can't wait to hear them both together. Very exciting stuff.

I put one of the WGS Veteran 30's into a nice 1x12 cabinet I bought on eBay a while back, and I think it sounds great. Highs are clean and articulate without being harsh, and there's nice, tight bottom-end thump to go with it. I almost always leave my Valve Jr. combo plugged into this cab now, rather than using the onboard speaker.

I have a 2x12 cab I bought a few months ago that came with Eminence Legends. I'm thinking seriously about taking those out and trying the combination of a Green Beret and a Reaper G12H30 clone in that one.

These speakers are just crazy-good for the $$.

I still haven't gotten both into a 2-12 cab, but, I have been useing the Reaper (G12H30 clone) in a 1-12 cab, and it sounds fantastic. I have a real nice sounding Celestion G12H30 that I'll A/B....but I think the high end in the Reaper is much nicer. Supposed to do the whole taste test tomorrow. Film at 11:00
