I know I could probably figure out what I needed and simply buy the parts from Mouser, but I just don't have the time.

I just picked up a used GE-7 on flea bay for around $50.
I would like to modify it to eliminate the noise that these pedals are famous for. I will only be using it in my amp's loop for solo boosts.

I was wondering about the "Sniper," and the "Primer" mods that are available on the bay.
Also, Fromel offers one that replaces 3 (I think) IC's.

The Sniper says that it replaces 4 IC's and the Primer says it only replaces 3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very good with a soldering iron and the kits look pretty simple. Just don't know which one to get.
I would much rather have built a BYOC Graphic EQ kit, but the site says it is not available anymore.

I've never modded a GE-7 but I recently modded a CE-3. Replacing the electrolytic caps drastically reduced hum and background noise.

Ditto for me, too. I bought the mod kit from Fromel, and the instructions, while a little thin, were adequate to the job. Good parts, too.

:D Thanks guys!
The one I was really looking at was the Sniper mod. Mostly because it replaces 4 IC's instead of 3.
The rest of the kit looks the same.

Guess I could just open the pedal up and order all IC's and caps from Mouser, but it seems like a crap shoot to me.
At least with the mod kit, I am getting quiet parts that will work (hopefully).

How did you guys like the CE after the mods?

I had bad luck with the 12v to 9v mod, so I undid it. It wasn't necessary for me anyway. What happened was everytime I clicked on my Phase 90 the CE-3 would turn on as well. As far as sound quality, the mods made a vast improvement, though. Overall, I'm happy I did it, and its made it's way back onto my board.

CE-3 is MUCH better modded. I believe I did the "Wet Dream" mod. It made it much quieter, less "tinny" and can get a pretty cool vibrato effect now. I did a few further mods to voice it like a CE-2 a little bit more, and a depth mod. Overall well worth it.
