Hi y'all!

I would need........help, suggestions, guidelines to come up with a simple compressor.

For now i have built a Ross type comp on tonepad layout and i also have a 5knob BYOC comp here.

The job i'm trying to get done with these comps, is the «infinite sustain» sound.....

The problem is that i'm able to get that sound with both comps.........but i'm always hearing the comp, in the sense that it changes the overall guitar tone. Kind of «muffing» it.....it sounds like if i would put a blanket on my speaker....

I think the Orange Squeezer does that pretty well, I would love to be able to get that effect with a one knob comp....2, if a level pot is necessary to keep the comp at unity gain.

Thanks

That one looks cool CJ.
This one's good too.
Heaps of sustian, mine can actually produce swells, optical too so it's reasonably transparent, but a bit more old school, so it can add some noise...I built it with a single MPSA13 darlington transistor instead of the tranny pair.

+1 on the optical comps, I've built two of the BYOC ones and they are very transparent(make sure to do the attack and release mods)

So i finally decided to perf that SupaSustain, it asks for NP electrolytic, i don't have any....and i don't want to pay 2$ each at the local store.

I believe that i can use polarized 1uf aslong that they are oriented correctly?

Thanks!

Yep.
You could also use two 0.47uf in parallel to get pretty close. (or 0.33 and 0.68 for closer still...)

You could also use a 1µ box cap, if you have any handy. If not, I highly recommend you order some from Tayda. They also have 1µ multilayer ceramics, which are nice a small.

I use their 470n and 1µ ceramics all the time. They are small, quiet, and have fairly tight tolerance.

I like the love squeeze...fits nicely into a 1590A :)

sabrotone has the layout.

with the stage 3 and ISP Decimator engaged, the love squeeze sounds really good.

I was going to suggest the Super Sus as well. I think that Mictester over at FSB did a vero for it, and someone, maybe him converted it to 9 volt. I built one rollin my own vactol and used a charge pump for the 18v and it worked fine - the thing is a bit of a brute though!

There is another transistor type compressor that does huge sustain and vol swells, its as noisy as as frying pan full of sausages but awesome in a crap way - I'll see if I can think of the name while I'm at work today..
