Oh, and I do have a question: can I use single sockets for the Brick? That way I don't have to solder it in...maybe use the bolts to keep it tight?

I was wondering that myself, I see no reason why it shouldn't work if the depth of the box allows it. ... you just know any potential problem is going to be right under that soldered-in brick.
I thought a daughter board and ribbon cable connection for the brick might be my way to go if I build one.

ribbon cable - that's a good idea, too. I was thinking in terms of switching different bricks in and out...

Only 5 pins are used, 2 of those are joined ... 4 connections :D

Check it out when you get the kit. The pins on the brick are pretty thick, but it looks to me like they should fit into sockets. You'll have to look at the clearance between the pcb and the enclosure though. The way it's designed is for the brick to get sandwiched between the solder side of the pcb and the enclosure. With sockets poking up on the solder side, I'm not so sure you'll have the clearance to mount it that way. At the very least, you could go for a deeper enclosure and spacers on the screws mounting the brick to get the clearance you need on the component side or something.

Yeah, cool, then I will report back. I am excited about this kit - I'm more of a delay guy than a reverb guy, but lately I've found myself turning the springs on. This pedal might be ideal for the Deluxe clone head I built which is a basic 5E3 so no 'verb. Can't wait!

Me too. None of my amps have reverb and I've been using a Holy Grail (gross!)

You could do it an easier way, but only if you wanted. :)

Since two of the connections are V+ and ground you really don't need to switch those out, just leave them all connected.

Then I believe you could tie all the outputs together then switch between inputs. Would only need a 1P3T switch then.

What would happen is you put two of these bricks in parallel?

If you get a bigger enclosure you could run cables to mount the brick(s) beside the PCB and turn it into a double pedal with a tremolo and boost (or whatever you want!) as well.

I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be room to socket the brick. That's if the pins even fit in sockets. You could use a 1690bb enclosure, but then you'd also need pots with the long pins, or mount it some other way.

However, if the brick is underneath everything and you have to take the whole damned thing apart to get to it anyways, what's desoldering another 7 pins?

Right you are, Keith. I'm going to build this tonight, stock.

I also want to add an effects loop to my Deluxe clone head because I don't like the way reverb (or delay for that matter) sounds in front of a distroted amp. It's great when the amp is clean and you use boxes to distort, but it gets muddy and ugly when the amp itself is distorted unless it's in the effects loop...

That's not going to help sell kits...

I never said it was verified and it's not detailed enough for most people to get it right ...

It won't affect byoc sales one iota (people that will buy kits will still buy kits) but if it's not wanted, please say so and I'll pull it and just do it for myself.

I'd never post this at FSB or DIY, it's just for us ... some of us like to outsource parts, some want an offboard brick.

Anywhooo, the sentiment is there, but as I said, if it's inappropriate, I'll edit it out. :)
