with detachable/replaceable board!

This is the Culturejam/Madbean Big Muff collaboration. The Gruntbox.

This is the Ram's Head version. I didn't have any 4pf caps around for C10, so I used 7pf. (CJ, just informed me it is 4nf, not 4pf. I should not drink when building. I will fix it now, while I am sober. I have now fixed the problem, so I am editing my review) This beast sounds great. Tons of sustain and gain. Doesn't play to great with other drives or even my tube amps drive, but has enough gain on tap that it doesn't matter. Stand alone with a SS amp and this thing rocked. I am quite happy with this guy

I plan on building a few more versions and figured I don't need to have so many Muffs laying around. :? Enclosures and 3PDts ain't cheap. So I made all the offboard wiring connections via sockets. If you want a different Muff version, all you have to do is pop the board out and stick the next one in. 10 seconds!

I have since figured out a way today to make the replacing of the board easier and sturdier. I will get it done this week.

And to let you know, these are some nice boards. Easy to use. I really abused some holes on this Muff, however it held up fine to all my prodding with my hot gun. The openings are just the right size. Big enough for any size component you may have, but still grabbed it tightly. You have to be able to feel it and make sure your lead doesn't slip out.

My fondling of the Muff left me with the satisfaction of dealing with an experienced pro, but with the exuberance of a first-timer.

Now to the pics:

 that is an awesome use of sockets! i've been thinking about how i could do something like that and this hadn't even crossed my mind. i love that there is so much to learn here. i can't wait to get mine in the mail so i can build it too. sweet build, dc.

Interchangable boards ROCK :!: :!: :!:
Using the table top for a background gives a "Meddle" feel to the pics.
Checked again today. There's nothing sadder than an empty mailbox

Brilliant Man!

Oh and I will be sending you some Pot Condoms because if you are going to have swappable boards then that is the absolute perfect application for Pot Condoms!
Just think you will have excellent protection either when you put it in or pull it out as well as nice looking Jimmy Hat to show off while you are doing it!
And you can keep doing it again and again!

Check your mail this week!

Merry Christmas!

But the Muff feels so much better without condoms.

I can't believe I read that entire post and didn't see any hidden meanings. I must be getting old.

Fantastic Dan Armstrong-esque build.

Man, there is nothing like breaking in a new Muff.

Maybe we should do a Butt-Muff group order.

Nice build...funny comments.

How about computer ribbon cable and connectors? Wires soldered into the board and the other devices, less strain on the board when you switch them out?

I definitely have been influenced by Fardurk. At times I feel down right Farndurkian. But obviously, I am a peasant or serf on planet Farndurk.
My voter's registration list my political party as Farndurkian, actually.

Happy new sig day!!!!!

BTW - this friggin rocks. All of it. The paint, the cool purple knobbies, the socketed wiring (!), the naming convention, and the fact that you have a COMPLETE build using one of the new boards and my lazy ass was so slow in payment that I haven't even received mine yet :)

Very cool!

I love the socketed board - and the big orange caps! This is a really nice build.
