hey all...

been offering around town to build some byoc kits lately as a way to support my habit (pedal building that is) and had an odd request. a guy had bought a (two knob) byoc tremolo kit a few years back that he had a minor (9v adapter) issue that he wanted me to fix as well as wondering if he could get it modded to where the LED flashes in time with the rate.

He sent me a few pics of the pedal - I'm not worried about the 9v issue, that should be simple once I get my hands on it - but can anyone help me identify what version of the tremolo it is? It has two knobs and below are some (fuzzy) pics of the board.

If anyone has any input on the LED/rate mod request - that'd be great too.

thanks,
troy

Can't tell a whole lot, the pics are too blurry. Most digital cameras have a 'macro' setting for up close pics, sometimes it's represented by a flower icon. Works great for the up close focusing.

The V3 trem kits have the 3rd knob (volume control over the LPB portion of the circuit), the older ones use the trimpot to set the volume level. This being a 2 knob with a trimmer is V1 or 2. I know on the V2s the LED was set up to flash in time with the rate as part of the circuit design, it's one of the unique things about the BYOC tremolo - the LED is in the circuit as opposed to being on another set of lugs on the 3PDT. Anyway... It's before my time, but I think the LED blinking was part of V2 and not part of V1. Not sure how the GGG trem is set up, but they're both based on the EA Tremolo, with different mods incorporated. If the GGG is non-blinking stock, there's probably a mod for it out there somewhere which could be adapted to this.

In the meantime I'll keep searching the forums here to see if I can get back far enough to find out if a) the V1 didn't have the blink, and b) if there was a mod to get it there.

Hey - was looking for something else and came across some trem v1 mods in the main 'tech support' lounge, outside the trem subforum. There's a sticky 'big list of byoc mods' from back in the day when we didn't have individual lounges. In there was mention of the led blinking mod for the v1 trem (subsequent versions include the blinking led). Anyway the recommendation was that it's possiblebut difficult to do reliably. Sometimes the led will still blink with the rate even when the circuit is not engaged. Think about boss pedals or similar latchig type switched stuff when the led is on when the effect is off, and you have to stomp on it a few times to reset it, or occasionally unplug and re-plug it in to get it to reset.

Thanks for all of your help and work on this. I spoke to the pedal owner and let him know what we'd come up with... I think he's going to stick with it in stock form - he likes the pedal too much "as-is" to change it unless it's pretty safe.

Thanks again for all your help.
