Hello,

Just finished my first build and it's actually working  ...however, only on battery. It bypasses properly, sounds like I think it should sound, but when connecting the DC adapter, the LED goes out and the pedal just dies with no sound passing through. I checked the top three connections to the plug and re-soldered them, as they were somewhat sloppy at first. I'm pretty confident now that the connections are proper, but since I had to mess with them a lot something could be wrong. I am using a Danelectro "Zero-Hum" 9V adapter which works flawlessly with a BOSS SD-1. Just curious what some common mistakes could be in that regard to investigate further. Thanks!

first thing i'd check is the wiring on the power jack. i'm betting you've got the two plus terminals switched around.

Darn, I thought you were right since, to be honest, I didn't even realized it mattered (aren't they both +9V?). I switched them around but still nothing. :? Well, now I'm second guessing myself whether I actually DID switch them around after desoldering them.

Red wire goes to the + on the PCB. Black wire to the -.

I know that, thanks...not that it would really apply in this case since no colored leads come attached to the power jack. In any case, like CaptainPeyote mentioned there are TWO positive terminals and one negative terminal on the power jack. He thought I may have switched around the two positive ends, unless I am misunderstanding him. I don't understand what the difference between the two positive terminals on the power jack is, if there is one at all.

There are two + connections on the adapter jack because it is a switched jack. The lug labeled "To POS on PCB" is connected internally to the lug labeled "+9V Battery". When you plug a power supply into the jack the connection between the two + lugs is broken. This way the voltage from the power supply only goes to the circuit and not to the battery. Which can be bad news if the battery isn't meant to be re-charged. When you remove the power supply's plug the connection between the two + lugs is restored and voltage from the battery is sent on to the circuit.

The power connections on BYOC PCBs are labeled - + +

The + eyelet on the right gets connected to the outer + lug of the adapter jack. The inner + lug gets connected to the + eyelet between the - and + eyelets on the PCB.

Makes perfect sense now, thanks! I will double check my wiring.

Turns out I had the wires cross after all, even when I thought I had blindly switched them. Your explanation helped me make sure the wires go to the proper place now, and everything seems to work flawlessly now. Thanks a lot! :D 8)

I see a fuzz in my near future....
