Yeah it's pretty good, right? (VH1 Classic channel) Between that series and 'That Metal Show', there's a lot of metal to watch on TV these days..

I've definitely picked up a few things I didn't know about the many sub-genres of metal from that docu series..

It's weird to see something with the VH1 name become the place for all things hard rock, while MTV has turned into a reality soap-opera channel.

when the real world and jackass got more viewers than anything music related....they saw the money...and the pop scene is more about celebrity than music these days anyway.

i think more people want to be on cribs than have a behind the music be about them.

I have seen bits and pieces. Very cool if you are into "the metal".

And who ain't? Their acknowledgement of stuff like The Stooges and The MC5 has been really great, too. The first episode's segment on late 60's Detroit was one of the best pieces I've ever seen devoted to that era.

I also liked how in the glam segment the host kept saying, "I've never liked glam metal."

And I was pleased that they pointed out the Great Ignored Truth of glam metal, which is that Nirvana didn't kill glam metal; Guns N Roses killed glam metal.

The NWOBHM episode made me want to stock up on Diamondhead. Now I'm just hoping Doom Metal and "stoner" get their own episode.

I've always been a fan of the three Stooges and the Jackson 5, but what has that got to do with Metal ?

It's more like a mini series.. each episode covers one sub-genre of metal. They're at least one hour each, if not longer..

ps- I heard they're going to do the same for Rap-Rock, but you'll have to really look out for it, because it will only be 3 minutes long. However, it will cover everything from L-L (Linkin Park to Limp Bizkit). :P

Ten minutes at the very least. With 7 minutes devoted exclusively to the one band you forgot that defined that genre, Rage Against the machine.

It's really cool that they bring that kind of tv show, there's so many sub-genres in the metal world...most people all put them in the same bucket...but it's far from being that..

With that said....it's not just about violence, gore or vocalist that you don't hear nothing of what he's saying.
Metal is now made of every single genre of music within it, wich is what kept me hooked too hit after all these year of headbanging and mosh pitting!

A simple example of what iM trying to say, that will way better explain my point is this song:

How do we embeded youtube links? i tried all the possible ways....

I have too much respect for Rage & Tom Morello to put them into a genre that would put them side-by-side with Fred Durst (and Kid Rock, which I did forget).

My argument is that their vocals are too 'screamy' to be considered rap-rock, but really I'm just trying to disassociate them with those other bands..

I totally agree with you, the only thing i apreciated of Limp Bizkit is in the first album Three Dollar Bill Y'alls, where Wes Borland was doing cool and innovative guitar work...

i really want to hate that song...it's got everything to really hate about it. 8 string guitars, technically brilliant but boring solos, no bassist in the clip...

only problem is i kind of like it...

It drove me nuts for ages too..finally figured it out;
Cut off the start, then insert the NmfzW...bit between the youtube code.
Like so..

And, I'm not so much into metal these days, but that AAL guy is terrific.

Edit: embedding disabled anyway

I love that show. I think it's very well done. Unfortunately I missed the first episode

guitarmageddon - the AAL guy is a great guy. I did sound for him for a show in Detroit within the last year or so. One hell of a guitar player. I had a lot of fun that night doing my job!

That guy is Tosin Abasi, i not too much of a fan of AAL, but it got something cool to it, by incorporating some nice jazz progression and ambiant stuff.

I'm really more into what he did with Reflux, the album, The Illusion of Democracy, is a must have! :)

My DVR is full of these - my wife calls it "research". Considering the fact that she's writing a dissertation on music video, I guess I can't complain...

I've watched the first episode so far, and I'd definitely recommend checking them out. They're from Scot McFadyen, who did "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and "Iron Maiden: Flight 666".
