This is my first build although I am an electrical engineer and have some experience soldering through other products. I completed the confidence boost. I plugged it in and I feel the designated effect when I turn the pot (the noise gets louder and softer) however I cant get my guitar to sound through it. All I get is amplified noise. I measured 5 V at the output of the transistor, however nothing is coming out of the output of the circuit. I was thinking it was bad joints at the pot but I checked them and they look fine. The weird thing is that I am getting a 4.5 V voltage drop across the capacitor between the transistor and the pot. I dont know why that is happening. Any advice on how to fix this problem? Oh, btw, the capacitors that came with my kit were "1J100" film capacitors. The circuit specifies 0.1 uF capacitors, I wonder what difference that would make to the circuit.

Post us a few photos of the board, pot, wiring, etc. Make sure they are large and in focus.

Welcome to the board!
Dan

This thread might be of some help: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30938

Since you have amplified noise on the output, the boost section is likely working. You probably have signal blockage somewhere between the input and the transistor. Don't overlook your input jack wiring; common wiring mistakes happen there.

The voltage drop you describe across C3 is correct; that cap blocks DC voltage and keeps it off the pot. In audio circuits, when you have DC voltage on a pot that is carrying signal, you get a scratching sound when you turn the pot. So output cap C3 keeps the DC off the pot.

So are u saying that there should be no dc signal at the output of the pot? Because my voltmeter reads zero volts at the output. Btw how do you post pictures on this forum? I have pics to put on here of my circuit but can't figure out how to post them. Thanks

Yes. The output caps blocks DC from getting to the pot.

I got the pedal working!!!!! I think i just had trouble with getting a good electrical connection with the input/output jacks. It was hard to solder the wires to the lugs. But its working good now and I hardly have any noise! Thank you guys for your help. I cant wait to box this up! :D
