Just out of curiousity, the divided octave is the only BYOC pedal I have built that does not have the option of being powered by battery. Why is this?

Where would you put the battery?

Granted, but is that the only reason?

The circuit draws 12ma of current. That's not nearly as much as the Flanger or Reverb pedals but probably still enough to put a hurtin' on the battery if you leave it plugged in over night.

...which also lack battery capability. When the current draw gets high enough, battery power becomes rather impractical. The Divided Octave is kind of a borderline case, but with something like the Reverb (77ma), it's out of the question.

Thanks chaps!

I'm more stupid than I thought ............ and I already thought I was quite stupid......

I built the reverb pedal ages ago, but never noticed it didn't have a battery option!! All my pedals go on to a pedal board, so I've yet to bother to fit a battery snap to any of them..........but was planning to take the Divided Octave to someone else to use on it's own, and only then thought "a battery would be handy right now"....

So, next stupid question: the 9v adaptor that plugs into the power socket and then into my pedal board (Behringer PB1000) - can I just plug that directly into the divided octave on it's own?

Sure.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I'm building the divided octave, and was confused by the part of the instructions that tell you to solder the "battery disconnect" lug of the DC jack. Also, my kit came with a battery snap.

It all makes sense now. Thanks again.

FWIW - the original Mutron Octave Divider was an AC powered effect that plugged into a wall socket. I think that also played into the reasoning for why there is no battery in the kit. Since the original didn't have one, why bother?
