Although you don't hear much about them, GC had the Seymour Duncan Dejavu tap delay on clearance a couple of months ago for $80. I couldn'r resist that cheap price and picked one up. The thing is, it sounds really good! It lets you blend digital amd true analogue together and does all of the dotted 8ths etc. Still going to get an El Cap this summer though.

Hard to say.

I suppose if I could only keep/use one of them, it would be the El Capistan.

I just started using TC's TonePrint app for iPhone (and yes, there is an Android app also). I'll have to say it's pretty damn cool. Using USB is kind of a pain in the ass, but the app is great. I can switch TonePrints in about 5 seconds with no need to pull the pedal from my board.

Hooray for technology (that is both useful and unobtrusive)!

That sounds awesome! Where am I when these things happen... All these blending of digital and analog, and custom toneprint settings downloaded from your PHONE... Pretty soon none of us will be turning knobs anymore.

first off, that TC phone app thing is borderline science fiction, its soo cool
also, my buddy just ordered the TC alter ego delay, its the flash back but they replaced two of the modes with two new ones, a memory man and one like the old echo david gilmour used. they got rid of the lofi and they dyn delay modes.

I always loved delay, but never owned somes.....only used the one i had in some multi-effect units or with plug-ins when recording.

I had a MXR Carbon Copy for a while, but i sold it....needed to fund other stuff, was a great unit, if i found a nice used deal, i might get another one in the future.....

Now i've got the Deep Blue Delay, AD2 is on his way to me and got a musicpcb echobase that will be ready soon....missing some noob parts i always forget to order....

What i like the most is setting 2 delays, one that is on tap and another that doubles the repeat or engaged counter time of the main....and i've sometime used another unit to make a slapback.

The Flashback and Alter Ego are identical in all respects with the exception of two of the preset delay modes. They got rid of Lo-Fi and Dynamic Delay, and replaced them with the Echorec and Deluxe Memory Man presets.

I did a quick head-to-head, and they are otherwise identical in every way.

I like the new presets on the AE better than the ones they replaced on the FB. So I'm keeping the Alter Ego.

Hey CJ - I'm a loin hair away from ordering the alter ego. I've been using a self built 2 channel PT based delay for the last 4 or so years. The band plays about 30-35 songs a gig, I use a slapback for about half of them, then about a 300 ms delay for 4 or 5 songs. I really like having 2 channels so I don't have to twiddle any knobs Do you think the TC can fill in if I'm using slap most of the time, then using audio tap for dotted eighths 4 or 5 times a night? I think I'll probably need to adjust the repeats though. Also, do these oscillate?

It has a slapback mode in which the delay time pot has a very limited range versus the other modes. So it would be probably be pretty easy to find a good time there and also in another mode that is a lot longer (without having to diddle the time knob).

But, you will have to adjust the time division switch to go from 1/4-note to dotted-1/8th. Or you could just use your own natural rhythm and tap it out right to get the dotted-1/8th sound. (Some people think it's impossible to get "that" sound without a dedicated dotted-1/8th setting).

If your band goes from one song to the next without any sort of pause, you may have some issues, because there are no real "presets" like on other digital delays. The AE/FB are more like set-and-forget pedals, but with different "flavor" options. But if you have 5-10 seconds ever couple sounds to reach down and make a couple tweaks, I think it will work very well.

Thanks man! Is the time division switch active when you are not using the audio tap? I was thinking it wasn't and that I could settle on a core slap back setting, then hold the stomper down and audio tap out a longer delay time when I need it, then defeat the audio tap with another push of the stomper to go back to my core slap back setting. Does it not work that way?

The time division switch has three positions (it's always active in one): 1) 1/4-note, 2) dotted-8th, and 3) 1/4+1/8 (multi-head).

All it really does it dictate how the tap tempo will interpret your taps.

You can't switch between two delay times without re-tapping or turning the delay, as far as I know. There is only one master delay time. You would need two time pots for what you are talking about. Or user-defined presets.

Hi guys!

I am also a big fan of delays!
They are right up there with Od's...

The Retroman Kopykat delay is a very nice, two channel analog delay. I use it together with a replica on my board. That gives me three settings to work with; Long, slapback and dotted eights. Really great sounding and versitile set up.

But I have my eyes on a Strymon to....:)

Ah, I didn't realize this. I thought you could cancel the tap setting and return to whatever the delay time knob is set at by holding the switch down. Probably got that confused with another pedal. Bummer!
