Ok, what would you price a Mag Mod build complete with decal and epoxy? Got a guy who wants one identical to the one I built...literally exactly if we can agree on a price. I doubt I'd get any repeat biz out of it really as he doesn't gig.

I figured up the parts cost, something I've never actually done.

Just wondering how some of you seasoned cats might price that one.

Wow, a Mag Mod.....PCB or Perf? Honestly, I go high. The Mag Mod stuff is pretty much verified and good, but there is so much that can go wrong. You could easily end up debugging or troubleshooting for hours.

Here is tip.....bill him for two populated boards in your "cost". Whatever it costs for the board and a fair price to populate it....double it in your cost analysis! I have found that just pulling a board and replacing it with a new one, is a great way to "fix" a pedal. Honestly, if you think it takes 2-3 to build a pedal, but it ends up taking 5-6 hours, it will be financially and mentally defeating. If I have a board that is verified and it don't work in a customer build....I do about 10 minutes of debugging, then pull the board and replace it. You can always revisit that board for debugging down the road.

As far as the rest of the price.....I can't help you. There are so many variables. What is your time worth? How long does it take to build that one pedal from start to finish? Are you certain it will fire up after the alloted time frame? Do you have to order parts and pay for shipping or did your cost analysis figure stuff you had on hand? His deadline?

$500 and a "handy" from his lady.

Okay, on a serious note, I'd have to get $200 for that. At least. I'd rather have $250. The finishing alone is going to take at least a couple hours if you already know exactly what you're doing. And you may well spend 4+ hours debugging if anything goes awry.

I don't think gigging/not gigging is a good indicator of how many pedals somebody will buy. ;) I don't gig and I buy pedals.

Ooooweeee... I had a feeling this might be a $200'ish pedal normally or more. Just wasn't sure. That would scare the pants off him. Man I guess it depends on how bad I want to build one for him then. I already feel like I'm going to screw myself  ...so no need for the handsies CJ :|

Spin, we didn't have kids because we didn't want any BUT how much could I get a first born for on the black market? Maybe I'll do that.

DC, it's a PCB. If I could perf, this one would freak me out anyway.

Funny thing is I could sell him mine right now as he wants a twin of it. But, I don't want too  I spent an untold numbers of hours on the first one and by God I'm keepin' it !!!

Thanks fellers. Anyone else want to jump in feel free.

Yeah unless it's a huge favor or you REALLY want to build this thing anyway because you had so much fun building the first one, you need to get real dollars for it. Too much work! Too many knobs. Think about it in Nigel Tufnel terms. Look at all the knobs! This one, it's got 8 knobs. It's 8 times better than one that's only got one knob.

 I like it. That's my selling point! Eight times better !!

Tell him it's about the same price as buying a delay pedal, a chorus pedal and a tremolo pedal  If you're feeling generous, subtract $10 since it's all in one enclosure.

No worries. I would have sent it there myself at some point. Besides the experts have spoken!

Hey John, I think we tend to devalue most builds because they are in large "clones" of production builds, which makes sense. However this is a unique board in and of itself, so price accordingly. BTW if you happen to screw up the board I have an extra no charge you can have. I will not be getting around to that build. PS- its a lot of work as you know.

I agree with everything mentionned before, this is a HUGE built, tons of stuff and a «unique factor» second to none!

200$ is cheap, 250$ is what i would charge for it. Lower than that, it's because you really enjoy building something you wont use personnaly.

That's how i see it, i'm not using it, must be rewarding somewhere....

I am only building six total of this monster naming it, "The Great Green Gastropod" and have sold three for $279 each.

Each one is very loved and each player is using the circuit to it's fullest potential.

I am pleased and happy with the price I got. 8)
