What is everyone's opinions on this? If you don't know, recently they made a hologram of Tupac to perform with dre and snoop dogg at coachella, and now TLC is planning concerts with a hologram of their dead member:

Here's the hologram footage of tupac:

What do you guys think? Do you think its going to happen with SRV, Hendrix, or Lennon?

I watched that on coachella live through youtube. It's cool technology but I personally thought it was really creepy... :|

Yeah I'm going with really creepy. I don't know if it will catch on but I'd much prefer to see live performers with some kind of video tribute to a deceased performer, even if it was video of the song currently being performed.

I suppose theres worse ways to use hologram technology.
Didnt someone also make "new" Tupac songs out of fragments of other things he had recorded? kind of like Midnight Lightning for Jimi Hendrix(which I will admit was a bad idea but still had some cool songs)
As far as seeing a hologram Hendrix or SRV etc... I dont know, Im not sure that would work quite as well, paired with a laser light show would work better

Yeah it is creepy. I do not see the appeal myself, then again I insist to going to 2D movies

It's the music business though, it's what they do, like Sony hiking the price on Whitney's Best of immediately after her passing.

A little creepy. It's like a high tech way of having an animatronic dead guy on stage.

Technology is changing so fast. It's not too hard to imagine the Playstation 2015 version projecting a holographic image of Slash to play along side of you in Guitar Hero, or even sit on your couch and give you guitar lessons.

Bizarre and pathetic are two words that come to mind.

Everyone says that Tupac looked so real, but to me he looks like a friggin' Grand Theft Auto character.

They already lip sync. This is just another step into the abyss that is big lable live music.

Anybody else read Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy where the band plays remotely from a space ship above the planet - and the lead singer is dead because of tax reasons. (the name of the band escapes me and if the book wasn't so horribly written I'd read it again - what a funny book)

I must be alone in thinking its awesome.

Imagine them doing this with guys like Hendrix and SRV. That means new kids are listening to real music. I love it.

I'd gladly pay to see those "two". I've always wished I could've seen them and it's looking like at some point, I could get as close as I ever could've.

This is a godsent for the big labels really. Now they can re-exploit their catalogue of long dead artists and sent them back out on tour again. No need to create yet another teen popstar, just send the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Elvis out on tour again. No hassle, no substance abuse, no ego issues and best of all 100% raking in the dough. And before you say it would be cool to see Jimi Hendrix again, you're not. But its already hard enough for up and coming acts as they have to compete with the label and television created teen idols, it would be even harder if they had to compete with the dead as well. Worst case scenario this technology becomes so cheap that a bar, instead of hiring a band to draw in/amuse customers they can pop in a live 3D DVD and have Aerosmith rock the joint. With smart software so the bar owner can type in the name of his joint so holo-Tyler will yell out its name and pretend he's really there.

I predict further hard times for up and coming musicians. It used to be that every band could earn a decent living playing at clubs as live music was the way to draw in customers. Then disco came along and they got replaced by DJ's playing records. And bands who had solid gigs almost every night found themselves without a job. Nowadays we have people who have grown up listening to electronic music without any real musicians in it and think nothing of it. Who actually believe that a guy who plays records is an honest to god musician! So I wouldn't be surprised that in a few years most audiences will think nothing of going to a show by a dead holographic artist with either a live band, DJ or dead holographic band to back him or her up.

I feel like a boring old fart now.

Put me in the "creepy" camp. I'll add tasteless. I heard the Jackson family is seriously considering doing a Jackson 5 tour, complete with Michael hologram. Hey they could cover all the eras! Child Michael, older Michael, and alien Michael.
