So, I realize every time a build doesn't fire up what a dunce I am. But normally I'm able to put a cover over my knob  But, I was sitting at the kitchen table this weekend and had bought all kinds of different colors of these knobs http://www.taydaelectronics.com/potenti ... inter.html. Could not get them to squeeze on. I pressed as hard as I was willing to press on a pedal and no dice.

Anyone else had this issue? So it's me huh? Figures :|

I will drill them out just a smidge to use but dang. I guess I could steam them to loosen up that plastic

I've got a ton of those knobs from Tayda and they seem fine for me, but only on the pots with the splined shafts.

What kind of pots are they? Is the knurling in the knob lining up with the knurling on the pot?

I had the same problem. Those knobs only work with the split shaft knurled pots that Tayda sells. They won't work on solid shaft. I tried drilling one out, and was able to, but needed to add a drop of hot glue into the knob to get it to stay on the pot. My 1/4" bit made the hole just a touch too big.

There's a difference between metric and imperial knurlings, you run into this all the time with guitar pots and knobs.

I had that problem too, accidentally bought a bunch of knobs off ebay only to find out they don't fit solid shaft pots even though they were sold as 1/4" hole.
chinese knobs
They work fine on the Tayda split shafts though so I guess it's not a huge deal to use some Tayda pots for a few builds. I kinda wanted to use the extras on my amp but no dice.

The reason they're so cheap is that they don't include a set screw. That's a tipoff that they're for knurled shaft pots, not solid shaft.

Yep, my shafts are solid. That's what I get for ordering so many before first trying some out.

Let's see what lesson is that.... :? Yep, there is it. Lesson #437. Got that jotted down now.

On to mistake number 438 :|

Just buy yourself a bunch of the Tayda split-shaft knurled pots to go with the knobs. At 50 cents apiece, it shouldn't cost you much. Unless you bought 500 of the knobs or something....

I'll have to do this for sure. Of course I got in on that group guy of pots with crbmoa and ordered something like 150 pots more or less. But, I'm sure there are some values I can glean out that I'm low on or wish I had ordered more.

Well John I don't know how much this helps you, but all this talk about Tayda's pots being knurled shaft has given me an idea for the drawer full of cool ebay knobs I have that require knurled shafts :)
