I started to reorganize all my part stash..........i bought a load of Coins envellope for all common parts, resistor, caps, diodes, leds and other miscelanous stuff...

But the IC's........they in tubes, on foam pads....how do you guys sort them out so it does'nt take too much space and that it's easy to work with......

Really trying to get my stuff well placed so i save some time...

My resistor/cap/diodes/led organisation for now...

Well, this works for me unless I bought 25 at at time! Even then I guess I could pop out a few of those dividers to make a larger spot for each type.

I picked up that little holder at Home Depot. Don't remember what it cost.

Yeah, with the divider pulled off, cutting the tubes to length it's going to be perfect :)

I put my tackle box in «Bankers Box» you know those carton files/document box....3$! win!

I got mine from ELFA. :) They should have them/something similar anywhere they sell electronic parts and ESD stuff. You could just buy the anti static foam and make your own boxes as well. Or use any other box for that matter..

I haven't implemented this yet, but foam + coin envelope is where I'm headed with ICs. Every other solution I've come up with either doesn't allow me to sort them, is too large, too expensive (I'm like you, I have well over a 100 ICs), or doesn't allow flexibility for moving them around. I've priced the black conductive foam, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I just looked and it looks like Jameco has good pricing on the foam if you don't need a metric ton (the piece they're selling is 12 x 24 x 1/4"). Mouser has better pricing (about half the cost per square inch), but you get three times as much. Well since I'm doing a Mouser order, I guess I'll pull the trigger... finally. Those things always seem to end up being a shit load more than I expect them to be.

Hmmmm..yeah! i like the idea of the foam in a coin envellope......maybe a bigger envellope......

I also have a mouser order building up, do you have the part number of the said foam?

Thanks! 8)

I've got some 6-1/2 envelopes that I think will work well.

I use a large bag full of smaller bags. Anti-static foam to hold the chips. I also have a small bag-of-bags for all my logic family chips.

It's ugly, but it works.

 I'm glad I'm not the only one with the coveted bag-o-parts. Mine has everything from my last Mouser order in it (less the 1 part I actually needed which spawned the order), plus a bunch of stuff from Tayda.

If you want to unload some of that foam if too much I'll buy some off you.

I use these kinds of boxes too, and just separate them into categories like "Op-Amps" and "Logic Gates" etc.

I should separate further as that is a good idea but I just have not gone back to do it yet. So much to do. So little time!

I use these great little boxes o' boxes I found. They were a little pricey (like $9 each), but they work great for little stuff like a dozen 8-pin IC's, or 1000 SMD resistors

My other gear mostly goes in pull-out drawers, organized mostly by decade and/or decade of codes:

now to get all those un-labeled drawers labeled...
