After intensive trans-Pacific development, Captain Peyote and Guitarmageddon are very pleased to announce the release of beautiful, limited edition, old-skool Codpiece boards!

These are available for pre-order NOW from codtone.com...One size fits all!
Each one is a veritable Rorschach Test, we guarentee you've never seen anything quite like them. :D

$10 au (that's a bit less than 10 us dollars  ) each with FREE postage to every corner of the globe!
Cart link is HERE.

The Codpiece, to quote the very comprehensive & informative build doc, "is a medium gain overdrive/boost that enters high-gain OD and fuzz territory when the clipping diodes are engaged. With no clipping, it is responsive and dynamic, cleaning up well with your guitar’s volume knob. With clipping engaged, it is highly compressed, harmonically rich, and sustains for days."...some would even say months. :D
It is also highly moddable, can be fitted in a 1590A and has sexy clippers that light up when you play!

Thourough build documentation, schematic and infornation about mods are posted here on the Downloads page of the Codtone website. Boards will ship in 10 days...Get them while you can!

A Clip:

Nice demos!

I love the Les Paul Strat! A man after my own heart.

By the way, right at the beginning of the part in the first video when you demo the MosFET clippers....that riff *almost* sounds just like the main riff in Iron Maiden's "Where Eagles Dare". Love it.

This thing is awesome! You guys have recaptured the even order harmonics which are lost in a push-pull tube arrangement. I now issue a challenge or more aptly, a commission. Make this circuit with real time or MIDI control over the clippers and whatnot. I will pay for such a pedal quite well and rave about it in cyberspace.

Well it does already have real time control over the cliping options...you just have to use your finger to flick the toggle switches.

But, in all seriousness, and if you are serious about the commission, I think we could build one with midi-controlled clipping options for you.
I'll confer with my colleague and PM you.

Ordered!

(Why are my bank and paypal accounts black, gaping holes? Well, somewhere in the world, there are multiple parcels with different boards and parts on the way to me, I guess I have to be sure that I get to the mailbox before my wife does, EVERY DAY for at least a couple of weeks... I have been on a shopping marathon this spring, now it's time to bring the iron out.)

I'm trying to upload the build doc, but the site won't accept pdf files.
It should be up on Ben's site soon, however.

For education, here is Codpiece at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codpiece - I am not a native english speaker, so I didn't know this (I thought about a piece of Cod, the fish...), and I had a good laugh when I saw this :-)

That Peyote mod is definately something I'll do. But is there a way to make it octave up? And even selectable octave up/down/both? Anyway, I have big expectations to the Codpiece, I will build it with a pre volume, and I can see a future stayer on my board, along with the DOD 250 and the Classic Compressor.

Cheers to Guitarmageddon and Captain Peyote for this!

I don't think so, but I may be wrong. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why it gets those weird octave-down overtones. It has something to do with how very amplified the signal is by the time it gets to the clippers. I tried a simulation running Peyote Mode with a 1000 volt battery... the transistors amplified the incoming signal from 1V peak to 892 Vpeak! So really this thing puts out a near-square wave once you've applied clipping. When scoping it (again, in the simulation - my real o-scope is busted), it's apparent that the square wave form is very nearly rectified, too... as in, most of the energy is on the positive side, with tiny spikes to the negative side. I just don't know enough yet to determine exactly what this is doing, but I know I like the sound.

Anyway, the octave down is sort of an artifact that happens as your note begins to die. Installing the pre-gain mod from the build doc might make it easier to get those octave down tones. But octave up? That might be a job for another pedal
