Hello there,

A buddy of mine who I play music with has an old 4x10 bass cabinet that has seen better days. I had laying around a 6x10 guitar cabinet so I swapped out 4 of the 6 speakers and left two of the originals in it, however I didn't wire the 2 guitar speakers in.

My question is with all of the extra low end and general output that the cabinet will be experiencing, and because the cabinet isn't ported, will I have to worry about the 2 original speakers getting damaged from sharing the enclosure with the 4 other wired speakers? I'm worried about the resonating vibrations (if there is such a thing) damaging the speakers, even if they aren't wired in.

The speakers in question are 2 vintage eminence with aluminum cones. I haven't had any issues with them at this point, and because of the different impedance of all of the speakers I felt it was safer to just wire in the 4x10 speakers until I find matching ones.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you.

I doubt any damage will occur but the un-used speakers will act like passive radiators and could possibly color your sound. I'd remove them and cover the holes.

I cannot possibly explain that now. I'm not a native english speaker, summer arrived yesterday, I'm drinking beer in my shorts. And I'm waiting for my woman, wich is on the hot side (at least she was yesterday...).

Cheers!

Thank you everyone for your responses. We had rehearsal last night and the bass sounded descent. I will keep my eyes out for a solid pair of 10" speakers and until then we'll keep on playing.
