It's this one:
http://www.mamamare.org/5K.html

My wife's friend from high school started the foundation year before last. This is their second 5K. It's a lot of fun because a ton of people I know will be there. And the race begins and ends at a cool bar down by the shore. 8)

I've been biking a lot lately with a friend who had an extra bike since I don't have one. We went just over 19 miles today. i enjoy it. It's a good time to talk and hang out, get to bike and watch the sun set, and feel great during and after. Love it! Now I just need to get my own bike. My buddy rides a nice Trek that he got used for like $950 (like $3000 new  ), the one I ride was a $100 garage sale purchase  But it works!

CJ that's definitely my kind of run! Not many like that here in MA.

I want not only a mountain bike but a place to ride it..... :?

She's training for a half marathon now. Not much I can do to get out in front of that

You should run it with her - halfs are fun. The marathon is even better, but you get 80% of the fun of a marathon out of a half-marathon, and only half the distance, so it's a pretty good deal!! I just did the Miami Beach half a couple of weeks ago - definitely good times, and they were handing out 24-oz water bottles full of beer at the finish (mind you, the race started at 6am, so - yeah - we were drinking at 8am!)

I ended up 360 overall out of 1002 entrants. And in my age group, I was 40 out of 83. Meh. I beat all my friends by at least 10 seconds, which was pretty cool. And my wife dusted the whole lot of us.

Simple - she doesn't drink nearly as much beer as you do!!

Well I had my one 2.1 mile warm up first run of the year last Tuesday, then I haven't been out again since. One reason or another, some legit, some not so... Like today. I didn't go run today so I could cook for my wife and child. Sounds like it's really nice of me but honestly my wife would have been happier had I gone out and run and she cooked...

Ugh. Total fail on my first long run of the year today. Went out for 20 miles, and starting having pain in my foot after 9 or so miles, then I was done by 13 or so ... called it a day, limped a bit, called the gf, got a ride (and some Indian food on the way home to make up for the missed miles (that's a valid training plan, right?)).

Oh well. Figure out what the problem is and try again next week ... lame.

Screw y'all I'm thinking about the end of my run after the first mile! Cruising towards the end of the second mile I have to keep reminding myself that limping and running are not the same thing.

Ha - yeah - but it takes a while to work up to this point and then when you can't finish it because of some small injury, it sucks!!!

On the 'keeping it real' front - anybody can run further, the trick is to forget about any notions you have of speed for a while. Even if you're right now saying "yeah, but I think I'm fast when I run an 11 minute mile," the statement still applies. Get a heart rate monitor, do the math and figure out your basic aerobic zones and go out jogging in those zones - you'll be going so slow you can't believe it, so slow that you're really just going through the motions of running while you may as well be walking briskly, but you'll be out for more actual time, and your body will be able to make the adaptations it needs to to build endurance. After the endurance is there, the speed will come naturally to a point and then you can do speed work if you want to (i.e.: if you hate yourself and your body!)

I'm not ignoring my bikes this year, either! I plan on a couple of 30-40 milers this week and an 80-miler on Sunday depending on how this ankle feels ... should be fine on the bike, though!! The lesson here? Funemployment rules!!

OK - reviving this thread. I've been on the wagon the past couple months, running at a minimum 2x/week, which for me and my schedule is pretty good. Today I ran a practice 5k, as I have a real 5k (Sensata Race to Beat Cancer) on Sunday. 28:16. And I had enough gas left in the tank that, after walking for a minute or so, I did the second half of my wife's workout with her, as it was on the same route and we met up at my 'finish line'.

Now I just have to work on the mental endurance part, knowing when I'm going to have gas left in the tank at the end, and using it during the 5k!

Nice TD! It was SQL'd but that 5k I talked about on here I ran last year scared me. My crap hurt for months and backed out this year  The torn meniscus I have in each knee is what really flared up and wouldn't calm down for 6 months.

I have been running/training for a 14k thing in sydney called City to Surf - I'm planning on running for a charity organisation called Compassion; who my family sponsor a kid through.

Sad thing though; I've been getting some pretty full-on knee pain after about 15 minutes of running. I saw a Physio and it turns out I have a small tear in the meniscus in my left knee. The plan is to rest and stretch for 6 weeks, then try to pick it up again. The race is in about 8 weeks …

EDIT: just saw that TNblueshawk has the same knee thing going on. Any tips?

Not really MJ. I've had it for about 5 or so years from doing squats I think. In my case, it doesn't ever really "catch" so I get by fine with it. Still do squats etc... It is the medial meniscus. Typically, you really won't worsen a ligament like that by running straight ahead. It just makes is sore from the pounding and in my case not being a runner my pieces parts weren't used to that "small" 5k. However if I was actually a runner, I would do the 14k without hestitation IF you can stand the pain in training up until that point. Sometimes that puppy flares up and sometimes it does not...sort of like low back pain but I digress....

Let me ask, did the therapist diagnose this with or without an MRI?

Haha!

TN - have you tried cycling at all? No pounding on the knees, and no chance of movement anywhere other than in a straight line (unless you fall off or something).
