I just finally got around to organizing the band's master song list. It's at 51. Is that a lot? I have trouble thinking that I know 51 songs. What's yours look like (your song list...creep).

Y'all rock "How Come" from Ray LaMontagna? I love that guy and have all his albums and that song is killer. Do you sing it?

Can't tell...what Yonder Mt song is that? Sh&t can those dudes pick or what!

I can't believe you guys cover so many Forget The Roses tunes! You should become should become a FTR tribute band. That would be cool!

And I love the set list, I'd love to actually see your band, except you obviously have a huge weird Canadian following as evidenced by your inclusion of The Tragically Hip.

wheat kings is a good song, not my fave by the hip by far but a solid song all the same. my wife makes me play this one on the acoustic lots

lots of good'uns on that list, it looks like the Yonder song is "40 miles to denver", one of their best songs IMHO, that and "granny wont ya smoke some"

i opened this thread hoping for a list of everybodys fave songs by the Band lol

oddly enough, i'm in the middle of doing the exact same thing. I'm on google docs trying to get all the songs we've thrown together in one document. we do about half and half originals/covers but DANG we don't have 51 songs! thats a healthy set list!

when i get ours done i'll try to post it up here.

Yeah - we just got into the Ray tunes just this past month. How Come is a sweet tele song! Me no singy though. I have this thing that if I try to play the guitar and sing at the same time, I wet myself and pass out for five minutes...

That's exactly what we are! It's really hard to nail that dudes tones though; he's friggin brilliant.

Aww, thanks bud! Yes, the Canadian problem...the singer is a Canuk. Leaves canadian bacon grease all over the mic every night...such a hoser. And he insists on Molson in his own personal rider!

It's funny, from a state-side point of view, that song is soooo Canadian with lines like "our parents prime ministers" and "late breaking story on the...CBC..." Cracks me up every time.

Yeah - 40 miles is a highlight of every evening. We're not a string band, so we sort of play it roadhouse style (pain don't hurt...) and speed it up a smidge. That's coupled with Sweet Black Magic which also gets the treatment. That's always a fun 10 minutes!

It's a thing real bands have in their contracts that specify what the venue must provide to the band - such as a twin reverb for the guitar player, bottled water for the band, M&M's with all the brown one picked out, etc...

Two songs from Ray that must be learned if I may be so presumptuous  :
" For The Summer" and "Three More Days"

How do you guys remember all those? I've always wondered that since I've never been in a band.

What happens if you "have a senior moment" and draw a blank on a chord change or whatever?

Chord patterns start to 'stick' after a while, and if you practice enough, it starts to become more about muscle memory than thinking about which chord comes next. For me at least.

Speak for yourself grandpa! :P And when in doubt, blame the bass player!

I'm with Morgan...muscle memory and ALLOT of practice. For me, the hardest part to remember are the bridges/turnarounds and the solos. The verses and choruses are the easy part. I always have a guitar in reach at home, so it's pretty common for me to be watching TV on the couch and going through songs (unplugged). Most of my personal practice time involves bridges and solos.

Having just performed our first (reunion/memorial) show in 20sum years we had to sort out a set list. It took us quite a while to remember all of the songs, then even longer to remember how to play them! It was quite embarrassing to have guys looking at you while you try to remember how to play songs you wrote in your youth.
All told, we had 27 originals that we pared down to a 9 song set :!:
As much fun as we/I had, it hurt for 2 days.

from my experience in the USA its probably Molson Stock Ale. its okay, not my fave by far, in fact i dont even think they sell it in canada lol

some great tunes on your list too there EBF, cant go wrong with that mix.

when i usually play, its with the bluegrass outfit and the setlists are almost all old traditionals like kitty clyde, silver dagger, goin down the road feelin bad, rollin in my sweet babys arms, big sciota, black eyed suzy, reubins train, and of course some old crow songs and some felice bros songs

Being in an all-originals band, we're typically good for 10-12 songs per show  We have to do a 1 1/2 hour set in August, and I'm starting to freak out about it..

Funny you mention him TNB, Ray's previous drummer is now the drummer in my solo band  I can't say it's an upgrade for him, but the drums sure do sound great! :D :D
