Hi Guys,

My last batch of PCB designs that I had fabbed included a Magnavibe clone.

This circuit sounds fantastic; its like a subtle, swampy, vibrato tone.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in one if I ordered a batch?

I would also do a BOM/Build doc. for the PCB's.

I'll be able to give firm pricing later but I imagine it should work out to around £5-7.

The only slightly tricky bit of the build is getting a good LED and LDR combo.

I'll upload some photos of my build (and the PCB) later.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers.

That one's a simple build and a nice sounding vibrato, I'd be in. 8)

I've never built a vibrato. If the key components are easy to source (you're in the UK too, so I guess you'll know :p), then I'd be in for one.

Thanks for the response guys,

I'll definitely be ordering.

Are we happy with bog standard green or would a fancier colour be cool (this would, however, make them more expensive)?

Let me know and I'll get the order in.

Cheers,

Steve.

I'll take one or two. Personally don't care about color, cheaper is better for me!

I like color. Don't know why. Just do. Pink would be cool 8)

Ok guys a heads up on this one...

I posted about it on my blog and got an email from Bigfoot FX, politely asking not to sell copies of his pedal/circuit.

Sounds fair to me.

Therefore, I couldn't really get a batch of PCB's made without feeling pretty bad about it (Bigfoot FX were very polite and reasonable), even if they were for DIY use only.

Hope you guys understand...

Weeeellllll.......crap. :(

I can understand where they're coming from but if it truly is that similar to Tim Escobedo's circuit as you posted on your blog, then what's the big fuss about? And especially if you are not copying their PCB artwork? (Isn't that where you cross the line?)

Just thinking out loud here but if you say they were respectful with their request then that's cool.

I do want to say thanks for the effort you put into this so far even though we got "stomped" by Bigfoot FX

I guess it's time to pop my vero cherry and get on this one! (And not buy one at $199 because I wouldn't have anyway  )

Given that the original was in the Magnavibe Amp, I'm not sure what claim Bigfoot has to it either...
Chordball, you should do it!
anyone who can't wait, there are several vero layouts out there already too.

Is this in fact "his pedal". If I am not mistaken, this is an older circuit which was as amp as was eluded to by Ben. I don't see the issue myself. :?

Yeah - I can see where selling a direct copy of someone else's pedal is no good, same name etc. I can also see where copying someone's circuit artwork is no good. I cannot see where cloning something that someone is currently selling clones of, to be bad. No matter how nicely worded. Especially when it's a run for DIYers and not for a commercial sale, even though that shouldn't matter.

Am I missing something?

I didn't know any of the history of this circuit so from the outside looking in if they didn't design it themselves and took it from someone else then you sort of have to have a brass pair to say you own it. But, I'm sort of dumb on a lot of this stuff so what do I know.

Having said all that I don't blame you duke for not wanting to deal with the headache of them contacting you etc...

Just to be clear, I'm not bustin' your chops over this. I hope it doesn't seem that way by what i said. :D

guitarmageddon,
Thanks for the encouragement. I believe I will give this one a go. But first, I must order some vero!

I understand that it is a modified escobedo circuit; you can see that comparing the two schematics. And its true that it is based on old Magnatone amp's vibrato.

Please understand the Magnavibe is not a copy of an old Magnatone vibrato amp.

To be fair he didn't mention anything about owning copyright etc. to the circuit. He just said he would rather I didn't sell copies (this could also be read as meaning its ok to sell the PCB's for DIY use, just not to sell clones of the pedal itself). Nothing more than that. A polite request really.

I could go ahead and still sell the PCB's, but is it really worth p*ssing someone off, in the same game as us lot (who seems ok to me), just for the sake of making a couple £?

The effect can be made on vero really easily (as posted my mageddon) so anyone who is interested can still get some vibrato action

I have enough of this business/ethics stuff at work so don't really want to deal with it for my hobby.

I would definitely feel really bad if I sold PCB's for the project, and then saw some Magnavibe clone pop up on ebay with my pcb (and name) in it (stranger things have happened). I just don't want to risk that kind of thing.

Anything for an easy life and all that, Hope you guys understand...

Sure do! You didn't even have to offer this to us so no worries from me.
