I just received my pre-built Ultimate Fuzz unit and replaced the Germ transistors with the Silicon ones.

I fiddled with the Bias setting and found the 12:00/vertical position to be best for my needs.

The problem is this, when I engage the pedal, and as the signal from the guitar fades, say about a few seconds before the sound fades out completely, the signal/fuzz seems to "fizzle" out, and then cuts the fuzz out completely, almost like a gate is being activated. It does not sound right. Also, when the pedal is activated and I turn my guitar volume to the 0/off position, there is very odd staticy noise, which is very noticable. The moment I turn the volume anywhere past 0 it disapears.

I also have the Large Beaver and this pedal does not give me any problems whatsoever. I've never experienced this with any other OD/fuzz effects I've used in my rig.

Thanks

Andre

IIRC it seems I remember hearing Keith say that this is normal. Keith is off to NAMM right now so it may be a while before he can comment.

hmmm..normal? Played it again with the band last last night and, for lack of a better description, there's definately something weird going on. Btw, I ordered this as a pre-built.

I eagerly await Keth's reply.

Thanks for the quick response.

Sounds like you need to mess around with the internal trim pot to find the fuzz's sweet spot perhaps...The pre-built pedals from Axeandyeshallreceive are of good quality, so if its something from the build, I think they'd work something out with you. Still though, it sounds like the internal trimpot to me....Either that, or one of the transistors might not be fully into the socket (if there are sockets for the transistors).

If you put the original transistors back, does this problem persist?

I tried dialing in the trim pot and with the second or third setting variation I all of the sudden got no sound at all, save for a squeeling hissing sound when I put the fuzz level all the way up. I turned the pedal off and the signal by-passed to the amp...so at least the signal by-passed. I switched out the Silicons and went back to the Germs and still nothing. I tried a combination of both, still nothing....no sound at all! I have to admit that when I put the Silicones back in, I was able to insert them a bit farther into the socket than before. Hopefully that was not the issue in the first place and now messing about has created something else?

Could the trim pot be bad, maybe the sockets on the transistors? I will pose my issue to Axeandyoushallreceive as well to see if they have any suggestions.

Thanks,

Dre
