i have found that i need to read a LOT of reviews before i really understand the ins and outs of a particular product. and even then i read the reviews with "a grain of salt" so to speak.

what i really look for in a review is for someone that is using similar gear as myself. i don't care what a shredder playing a jackson through a mesa boogie tripple rectifier thinks of an overdrive pedal. i want to see a person using a strat into a mid-sixties low-wattage american amp.

or when shopping for the pickups i just bought, i was looking for people playing SG's.

I'm with you Fuzz. It takes longer for sure, but I totally ignore number ratings (something out of 10) or star ratings or whatever. I look at what people are actually saying about a piece of gear, what type of music they're playing, what other gear, etc. For the few reviews I've written I've tried ot do the same. That tells me a lot more about something than "can't play megadeth with this it sux" :)

I agree with you guys totally.
Im a "review freak" ... I used to feel a little ashamed about it cause before I bought ANY damn thing I researched it or reviewed it for qute awhile before settling for something. But, Im always happy with my purchases, which isnt the case for people who buy things spontaneously.
I work with a woman who told me about a month ago that she is "going to buy a (new)car tomorrow" I said " oh, which one?" she said "I dont know. All I know is I need one, so Ill drive down the lot and see what so and so has."
I found that stupid, honestly.
Turned out she bought the same car I had bought new 2 months prior, form the same dealership. She got 18% interest (OUCH) on a 6 tear loan and paid 3100 MORE than me!
If only she could have spent about an hour or less on edmunds.com or a site similar.

Aw well

I skip the glowing reviews and read the bad ones. After I know the bad stuff and what it won't do, then I read the good ones.
I also do a video search on amps. I look for real people that own the amp, not the hired pro with full tech support and a sound guy from a manfacturer. I love amps and now have 11 of them.
Hi, my name is Paul and I'm an ampoholic.

If I could only get some samples and more info of the Allen Sweet Spot, I think it has reverb and tremolo.....

I wish I would have printed the review out because I was never able to find it since, but I laughed uncontrollably when someones only complaint about Boss pedals was that they had to unscrew 3 screws to get to the battery...The "hinge" screws need to be unscrewed in addition to the thumbscrew to get to the battery? Dammit, I have been doing it wrong all these years and just been unscrewing the thumbscrew to change batteries in my Boss pedals. Boy do I feel like a dumb  ss

I've got the Allen Accomplice and I can definitely recommend his amps. I was considering the Sweet Spot but I went with the Accomplice in the end. I'm pretty sure the deal breaker was a lack of an impedence switch on the Sweet Spot.
