This is my completed delay, upon further consideration, I think I could have shortened the wiring a lot!!!

I am hooked. This delay is awesome. I completed a phase pedal. It is glitter black, but I'm having difficulty with lettering. Nothing is really visible. I'll try white waterslide decals next.

My brother in law plays in another band. He, his bandmates and my band matess are planning on having me build them kits...

BTW, I want to know if you guys know where I can get colored chicken head knobs or other colored knobs... Any info???

Thanks!!!

Angel

really nice finish. You could definitely shorten up the wiring, but the fact that it works is the important thing. Next one will be cleaner.

I cleaned up the delay. Here is the "after" photo. I think it looks much better than the noodle soup of the initial pics.

Beside it is the built phaser. I hope the glitter black shows... BTW, I solved the lettering issue. I spray painted clear waterslide decal paper with glitter gray, printed the outline of the letters with the inkjet printer, and X-acto'ed the individual letters.

I'm looking forward to receiving the chorus and tremolo kits. I think I have the solution to the big gold glitter issue. If it works, I'll post the pics...

Awesome. That sounds like really painstaking work.

I really like the stripes on the delay. Did you just mask that off and if so how did that go? I'm thinking about some mask work on my next project but am concerned about edge bleed.

ok, what u wanna do is put down the tape to mark the stripe, then do not put down the stripe color, put another coat of the base color. Anywhere that you would get edge bleed will be filled in by the base coat color. Let it dry, the put down the stripe color. I've tried several times and it works like a charm.

I did it the other way around.

I primed the pedal, used the red, and used Parma Faskolor 10mm tape where I wanted the lines. I then applied the white.

This tape has a very weak adhesive, so you can apply a lot of presure so that there are no runovers. You must allow the paint to dry up completely before taping the lines off and after painting the rest of the pedal to remove the tape.

I used a lot of clear coat. Which is a nightmare, because I live in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where humidity is killer and I had to let it dry for much too long. I used about 10 coats of clear coat.

I'm thinking of painting the same scheme using metallic green with gold stripes.

Good luck.

A

keep in mind that if you do have bleed threw on your masking you can clean it up with color sanding before you clear coat

First I black primed the box. Then I used Dupli-Color Black Effex paint: three coats. I bought it at Pep Boys. I also saw it at Auto Zone, but have never seen it at Western Auto.

There is a catch with the Black Effex though. The glitter only shows in direct light. So to enhance it, and for the glitter effect to be seen outside of direct light I used their Clear Effex clear coat on top of the black. The combination gives you that dramatic prismatic glitter at all times.

Do go lightly on the clear effex, two or three light coats, because then the black turns a bit gray.

On top of these I did three coats of clear coat. The lettering, I did on top of the black effex.

another cool way to do metal flake is to put it in the first coat of clear --then do a couple of coats on top of it -- it puts the flake alot closer to the surface of the final finish

I've read that the clear coat dissolves the metal finish off the glitter so you end up with a lot of the flakes going transparent, while others retain the metal finish.

I am thinking of doing a metal flake, big glitter finish, and have been put off by this.

I went to an automotive paint place and for a few ounces of metal flake they wanted $50. I think it was a bit steep but that's the average for automotive metal flake.

I've heard glitter will desolve in clear but metal flake wont because in automotive applacations thats one of the tricks is to put it in the clear coat it dose cost a bit more but it might be worth it
